The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is seeking feedback on its proposed regulations concerning federal food inspection. The framework document in question provides an overview of the proposed regulations, and an early look at the preliminary text for some of its key elements, such as licensing, traceability requirements and preventive control plans. The document builds on feedback collected during earlier rounds of consultation.
Comments received by August 29, 2014 will be considered as the CFIA prepares to pre-publish the proposed regulations in Canada Gazette, Part I. At that time, interested parties will be able to comment on the full set of proposed regulations for 75 days.
As part of the advance consultation process with stakeholders, the CFIA will be holding a webinar session focussing on information of particular interest to Small and Medium Enterprises. In addition to providing information about the proposed regulatory framework, the webinar will also feature information regarding the new “Safe Food Canada: The Learning Partnership” initiative. This initiative advocates for collaboration across the food sector in an effort to promote food safety learning, with industry, governments, academia and training providers all working together to identify competencies and establish standards for the design, development and delivery of training.
