Shippers to the U.S. East Coast should expect disruption for much of this week as severe weather continues to affect all modes of transport causing cargo backlogs, although some terminals are scheduled to re-open today.

APM Terminals told Lloyd’s Loading List.com that it expected the Port of New York & New Jersey to re-open at 8am local time today, although with snow accumulation likely to exceed 60 centimetres, some closures in place yesterday at the Port of New York & New Jersey and Long Island Sound Point Judith Pilot Station were expected to continue through much of Wednesday at key container terminals and hinterland facilities, creating a backlog of moves in the tens of thousands that is expected to take weeks to clear, according to Inchcape Shipping Services.
