Manufacturing Boosts Canada Second-Quarter Industry Productivity to 82.7%

Canada’s industries are humming at their busiest clip in seven years – but the achievement may reflect the shrinking of the manufacturing sector in recent years as much as it does the current pickup in business.

Statistics Canada reported that the industrial capacity utilization rate – the proportion of the country’s capacity to produce things that is actually being used – rose to 82.7 per cent in the second quarter, marking the fourth consecutive quarterly increase and the highest rate since mid-2007, before the financial crisis and Great Recession.
