(Health Canada)

Canada Gazette, Part I Notice to Interested Parties Regarding Regulations Amending Part 1 of Schedule VI to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and the Schedule to the Precursor Control Regulations (PCR) to include alpha-phenylacetoacetonitrile (APAAN)

This is to inform you that on September 27, 2014, Health Canada published a Notice to Interested Parties in Canada Gazette, Part I to add alpha-phenylacetoacetonitrile (APAAN), and its salts, isomers and salts of isomers to Part 1 of Schedule VI to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and to the Schedule to the Precursor Control Regulations (PCR).

This proposed scheduling would respond to the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs decision to include APAAN and its optical isomers and salts in Table I of the United Nations Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances of 1988 and will help protect the health and safety of Canadians by mitigating the risk of the trafficking, diversion and use of APAAN in the illicit production of amphetamines in Canada.
