U.S. Customs and Border Protection Gil Kerlikowske is sticking to his pledge to solidify his team and focus on improving cargo facilitation.
Kevin McAleenan was promoted to permanent deputy commissioner this week, having served in an “acting” capacity since March 30, 2013. McAleenan joined Customs in 2008 and has worked for the agency since then, except for a roughly two-year break in which he worked in the private sector as vice president at the Sentinel HS Group, a Washington D.C.-area data and compliance analytics firm. Before becoming acting deputy commissioner, he was the acting assistant commissioner of the agency’s Office of Field Operations, where he led Customs’ port security and facilitation operations.
