POSITION: Director of Canadian Operations

REPORTS TO: Vice President

BUSINESS UNIT: GHY International

LOCATION: Winnipeg, Head Office

GHY International has an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join our Senior Management team as Director of Canadian Operations. Reporting to the Vice President of Canadian Operations, this position is responsible to provide overall direction and guidance to all operational teams. They will be responsible set expectations, manage performance and facilitate a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Strong hands-on leadership skills, guide and mentor associates while driving a culture of engagement and accountability which is intensely focused on compliance

  • Conduct monthly one-on-one’s with direct reports, ensuring Managers do the same with their teams.
  • Manage team performance, offering assistance and advice when associate performance issues arise.
  • Use a qualitative and quantitative approach to set and achieve goals for key performance metrics, productivity and customer satisfaction (both internal & external).
  • Promote the continuous development and learning of the teams’ ensuring everyone is accountable for results.
  • Confer with the Vice President to review goals, resolve problems and determine strategic direction.
  • Collaborate with Managers and all Departments to resolve issues, create standardization of processes and share ideas.
  • Facilitate effective conflict resolution, as necessary, between associates, managers, departments, etc.
  • Build brand recognition and credibility by developing associates and best practices to ensure a consistent application of regulations across all teams
  • Facilitate continuous improvement of the business by building highly efficient teams and a positive culture.
  • Provide regular reports on progress and performance of the teams
  • Serves as the resident expert of international export/import requirements
  • Assign new Clients, assisting in onboarding and ongoing client issue resolution
  • Determine training requirements across all teams, collaborating and providing direction to the Organizational Trainer to ensure appropriate training is available and provided to GHY associates.
  • Determining Staffing Requirements, Scheduling and Vacation Approvals
  • Provide approvals for penalty and demurrage/storage analysis

Educational Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education with a strong business specialization

  • Completion of MBA or equivalent considered an asset
  • 20 years of progressive brokerage and management experience is preferred

Experience:

  • 20 years of progressive brokerage and management experience is preferred
