In March 2014, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency launched a new self-assessment food labelling tool for producers, manufactures and retailers to help improve compliance with federal food labelling regulations.
The labelling tool consolidated over 1,500 pages of labelling information and organized content into specific sections: core information, claims and statements and food-specific labelling requirements. While food labelling regulations and guidance remain the same, this new tool is aimed to help simplify the content by adding self-assessment checklists and more label examples to help industry find and understand the information they need.
The CFIA will be holding a series of one-hour webinars in November to provide industry with information of how to navigate the tool and provide an overview on how the tool can help companies meet federal food labelling requirements. To learn more about these webinars and register click here.
Note: The next webinar in English will be held tomorrow, November 6.
