Hanjin Bankruptcy Claims Must be Filed Before October 26

In a lengthy post on the Canada-U.S. Blog of the international trade and sales tax law firm LexSage, attorney Susan Kohn Ross has provided a highly informative summary of the various legal issues that  importers and other interested parties need to be aware of concerning the bankruptcy of Hanjin Shipping.

Of critical importance at the moment for cargo owners and other companies who think they may have a claim against the failed container line is that they need to be filed in the Korean bankruptcy proceeding by no later than October 25, 2016.

As Ross notes with tremendous understatement in her article, “there are a lot of pending questions” on a multitude of fronts regarding Hanjin’s shambolic collapse, not least of which involve the conflicting rights and obligations of different parties that have been caught up in the presently chaotic situation.
