Washing Machine Safeguard Tariffs: 2021 Period 3 Quota Opening Aug. 7

Importers of large residential washing machines are reminded that the third quota period for 2021 begins on August 7, 2021.

In accordance with the Trump administration’s final extension of the temporary safeguard tariffs on imports of large residential washing machines, an allocation of 300,000 units (without rollover) has been made for the period August 7, 2021 to November 6, 2021.

In addition to applicable duties under subheading 8450.11.00 or 8450.20.00 (1.4% and 1%, respectively), the duty rate for In Quota Washing Machines entered during the period from February 7, 2021 through February 7, 2022 is 15%. Over Quota Washing Machines imported during the same period are subject to an additional tariff of 35%.

Additional tariffs do not apply to In Quota Washing Machine Parts under subheading 8450.90.20 or 8450.90.60, however, Over Quota Washing Machine Parts are subject to the 35% safeguard tariff in addition to the 2.6% MFN duty otherwise applicable.

Note: U.S. Customs and Border Protection advises that all entries submitted after 12:01 am local port time on August 7, 2021 and before 8:30 am ET on August 9, 2021 will be accounted for on the first quota business day at 8:30 am ET August 9, 2021. If the accepted entry totals submitted prior to the first opening exceed the limit all entries will be prorated.
