Revised Process for Issuing Public Warnings for Food Recalls

Posted February 04, 2015

Under Other Government Departments-Agencies

The Canada Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is taking new measures to ensure that public warnings for food recalls are issued as quickly as possible.

Normally, when food safety situations require a food recall, the CFIA asks the company in question to review a draft copy of the public warning only after the CFIA has confirmed that such a warning is required. Beginning immediately, however, companies may now be asked to review draft copies of public warnings before the CFIA has confirmed that a food recall with a public warning will be required.
