The total cost of ground transportation for Canadian shippers increased by 2.7% in the month of December according to the Canadian General Freight Index.
In addition, the base rate index increased by 3% from November to December.
“Total freight costs continue to rise driven by truckload activity in December.” said Doug Payne, president and COO, Nulogx. “Cross Border and Domestic LTL Total Costs slid in December, but were out-weighed by the Cross Border and Domestic TL increases. LTL costs have continued to drop in 2014, particular in the second half. Truckload costs, however, have been increasing over the past several months, and the Cross Border TL is significantly higher than December of 2013. This has produced an overall cost that is slightly higher in December 2014 than the same time in 2013.”
