While security agencies have made significant strides in protecting the ports from various threats, officials said Tuesday that more needs to be done to improve on those efforts.
Officials from various port and law enforcement agencies gathered Tuesday for the Port Security Operations Conference and Expo held at the Hyatt Regency in Long Beach. The annual conference, which began Monday, allows industry leaders to discuss cyber security initiatives, container screening and other issues.
Chief Ronald J. Boyd, Chief of the Los Angeles Port Police Department, and Randy Parsons, director of security for Port of Long Beach, opened the conference, which comes at a time when cargo movement is at its peak at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Both ports, which handle about 40% of all U.S. cargo containers, are the nation’s two busiest. Read more here.
