Global Affairs Canada (GAC) is requesting input from stakeholders who regularly interact with Canada’s sanctions regime. The Sanctions Bureau launched a survey to evaluate whether its current guidance and compliance resources effectively support businesses and trade professionals. The consultation seeks feedback from customs brokers, importers, exporters, and other practitioners who rely on sanctions information to manage regulatory obligations. The initiative aims to identify gaps in existing materials and determine what additional tools or guidance could improve compliance with Canada’s evolving sanctions framework.

Stakeholders who work with sanctions regulations are encouraged to complete the survey form circulated by the Canadian Society of Customs Brokers (CSCB), which will remain open until March 26, 2026.

Purpose of the Consultation

The survey aims to improve the clarity and usefulness of Canada’s sanctions guidance.

Participants can provide input on:

  • The effectiveness of current guidance and compliance resources
  • Challenges faced when interpreting sanctions rules
  • Additional tools or resources that would support compliance
  • Areas where regulatory guidance requires improvement

Responses will help GAC assess how trade professionals use its sanctions materials and identify priorities for future updates.

Why It Matters for Trade Compliance

Canada’s sanctions programs have expanded significantly in recent years, particularly in response to geopolitical developments and international conflicts. The increase in designations and regulatory updates has created additional compliance responsibilities for businesses engaged in cross-border trade.

Industry feedback will help the Sanctions Bureau refine guidance and strengthen support for organizations that must screen transactions, conduct due diligence, and ensure adherence to Canada’s sanctions laws.
