CBSA Adjusts Hours of Service At Ports of Entry
Trade Update • Nov. 18, 2024
he Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has announced changes to the hours of service at 35 land ports of entry across Canada, effective 12:01 am (local time) on January 6, 2025.
This decision, made in collaboration with the United States, aims to strengthen the security framework for both countries while optimizing CBSA’s resource allocation. By redistributing personnel to busier locations, the CBSA will enhance its capacity to process travelers and goods efficiently while maintaining robust enforcement activities.
Rationale for Adjustments
These updates align with similar changes made by the U.S., ensuring both sides of the border can manage inadmissible travelers and goods efficiently. The adjustments are based on an analysis of operational pressures and traffic patterns. Many of the affected ports process fewer than two vehicles per hour during off-peak times, and alternative crossings are available within a 100 km radius.
These changes aim to minimize disruption to border communities while allowing both nations to allocate resources where they are most needed.
