Pineapple Imports Under Assessment by USDA

he U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is currently considering the importation of fresh pineapple from Taiwan for consumption in the U.S. and its territories. The USDA’S Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has initiated a pest risk assessment, which will become the basis for allowing or denying the importation of fresh pineapple from Taiwan.
The importation of fruits and vegetables for consumption into the United States is regulated under Title 7 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 319.56-3 (7 CFR §319.56-3, 2019). Under this regulation, the entry of pineapple from Taiwan into the U.S. and its territories is not authorized.
