Section 301 China Tariff Actions Delayed

he Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) has delayed the Aug. 1 start for the Section 301 China tariff actions.
Why the delay?
On May 28, USTR proposed certain modifications of the actions in the Section 301 investigation of China’s Acts, Policies, and Practices Related to Technology Transfer, Intellectual Property, and Innovation.
According to USTR, the agency is still reviewing the more than 1,100 comments received during the open comment period.
USTR has indicated that it will make a final announcement in August and provide approximately two weeks before the tariffs will take effect.
Proposed Actions
Proposed actions for 2024 include Section 301 duty of:
- 100% duty on Electric Vehicles
- 50% duty on Solar Cells, and Syringes and Needles
- 25% duty on Lithium-ion Electrical Vehicle Batteries, Battery Parts, Facemasks, Critical Minerals, Ship-to-Shore Cranes, and Steel and Aluminum Products
Proposed actions also include Section 301 duty of 25% in 2025 for:
- Semiconductors
- Permanent Magnets
- Lithium-ion Non-electrical Vehicle Batteries
- Medical Gloves
- Natural Graphite (2026)
